About Keizer
Keizer grew from a settlement at Keizer Bottom beside the Willamette River and took its name from pioneer Thomas Dove Keizur—spelled “Keizer” through an error in donation-land-claim records. Residents voted to incorporate in 1982. Salem borders the city on the south and east, and 39,376 people lived in Keizer in 2020. KeizerFEST, formerly the Iris Festival, reflects the area’s iris-growing industry and was founded by Schreiner’s Iris Gardens. The former Keizer Elementary School, built in 1916, now serves as the Keizer Heritage Community Center and houses the Keizer Heritage Museum.
