Kelso, WA

Kelso sits along the Cowlitz and Coweeman rivers in southwest Washington, right on the Interstate 5 corridor. Founded in the 1840s by a Scottish surveyor who named it after his hometown, the city still serves as the Cowlitz County seat. Kelso has deep working-class roots tied to timber and the railroads, and today it functions as a close twin to Longview just across the river. Active freight tracks and I-5 cut through the city, so be sure to visit a neighborhood at different times of day to check for train horns and traffic noise.
