About Kendall

Kendall is a Whatcom County community at the junction of the Mount Baker Highway and State Route 547, with Maple Falls three miles east and the road to Sumas and the Canadian border running over Sumas Mountain. The place was founded in 1887 and named for homesteader Carthage Kendall. A limestone discovery in 1900 briefly set off bigger plans: a mining company imagined hundreds of workers and a much larger town, but the seam played out. Old railroad traces near the highway are the giveaway that Kendall once had a mining boom in the wings.
