Kermit, TX

Kermit is a small West Texas community and the seat of Winkler County, tucked into the Permian Basin just shy of the New Mexico border. Home to around 5,700 people, the town was named after Theodore Roosevelt’s son Kermit and grew from a quiet ranching stop into a bustling oil hub in the 1920s. Today, that hardworking oil and ranching heritage is still woven into everyday life, giving the town a straightforward, down-to-earth feel where neighbors tend to know one another.

Daily life here centers around local schools, youth sports, and the energy sector that anchors the local economy. Families are served by Kermit's own school district, and local spots like Pioneer Park offer room to get outside. For bigger shopping trips, specialized healthcare, or a wider variety of dining, residents usually make the roughly one-hour drive east to Odessa or Midland. With lots of sunshine, wide-open desert horizons, and a low-key pace, Kermit offers a traditional small-town setting deep in the West Texas oil patch.
