Keytesville, MO

Keytesville serves as the county seat of Chariton County, offering a quiet, small-town lifestyle with deep local roots. The community was founded in the 1830s when English preacher James Keyte donated land on higher ground to move the local government away from river floodplains. Today, it remains a close-knit rural town that takes pride in its past, including its status as the birthplace of General Maxwell Taylor, who commanded the 101st Airborne Division during World War II.

Daily life here revolves around a few central gathering spots. General Maxwell Taylor Park provides a great setting for outdoor recreation with its fishing lake, playground, ball fields, and picnic shelters. Down the road, Price Park hosts the local history museum and a historic 1853 Presbyterian church. Local students attend the Keytesville R-III school campus along Highway 5. Located at the intersection of U.S. Route 24 and Missouri Route 5, Keytesville offers simple regional travel, sitting about ten miles east of Brunswick and roughly a thirty-minute drive west of Moberly.
