King Cove, AK

King Cove is a city in Aleutians East Borough on the Pacific side of the Alaska Peninsula, near its western tip. It sits 18 miles southeast of Cold Bay and roughly 620 miles southwest of Alaska's largest city, with mountains, water, and long travel distances setting the scale of daily life. Commercial fishing has long shaped the city, and its deep-water harbor tied local work to salmon and other seafood moving through the North Pacific seasons.

King Cove's seafood economy has entered a different chapter since the processing plant formerly associated with Peter Pan Seafoods closed in 2024. The plant had been one of the largest facilities under one roof in Alaska, so its loss reaches beyond one employer: fishermen, processors, city services, and regional shipping all have to reckon with a changed local market. King Cove School, municipal offices, harbor activity, and regional air connections form the practical network residents rely on. The town's geography is inseparable from its economy; boats, weather, and the next available connection determine how the community works.
