Kings Mills, OH

Kings Mills is a census-designated place in northeastern Deerfield Township, on the west bank of the Little Miami River. The 2020 census counted 1,336 residents. I-71 puts the community about 20 miles northeast of Cincinnati and just west of Mason, but the river is the older organizing feature. The first mill was built here in 1799, and an earlier settlement called Gainsboro was platted in 1815 without really taking off. The name that stuck came with the industrial era: Kings Mills grew as a company town around the King Powder Company and Peters Cartridge Company after 1884. That industrial past is still what gives the place its texture.

The old factory story sits alongside the Little Miami, Kings Local School District, neighborhood streets, and the Little Miami Scenic Trail. Kings Island is immediately south in Mason, close enough to shape traffic, jobs, and weekend plans, but Kings Mills itself is not just a park overflow community. It has its own river edge, school district, post office identity, and old company-town footprint. The local scoop is that the big attractions are nearby, while the place's character comes from the layer underneath: mills, ammunition works, rail-and-road connections, and houses arranged along the river.
