Klawock, AK

Klawock is a Prince of Wales Island city on Klawock Inlet with a Tlingit summer-fishing history, an active salmon hatchery, and Alaska's largest collection of totem poles at Totem Park. Tlingit people came from Tuxekan and used this site as a summer fishing camp; the town later became home to Alaska's first salmon cannery. The modern hatchery on Klawock River began in 1978 and now helps raise coho and sockeye. Klawock-Heenya and the city keep the community's Native and civic identity in the same frame. The airport is the only one on Prince of Wales Island, so Klawock is both a harbor town and an island transport hub.
