About Knoxville
Knoxville is a Crawford County CDP and county seat, where the Georgia legislature laid out a courthouse square in 1823. The historic courthouse remains part of the district, and the Crawford County Historical Society preserves local pottery through a replica wood-fired “groundhog” kiln. Its first firing took place during Jugfest/Old Knoxville Days in 2007. The society's work connects the courthouse, kiln, and festival to a craft tradition that once supplied utilitarian pottery across Georgia. Knoxville's present map joins county government, historic buildings, and craft history.
