Kodiak, AK

Kodiak is the main city on Kodiak Island and the transportation hub for the island's communities, reached by ferry or air. The Kodiak Archipelago has been home to Alutiiq people for thousands of years, and the city later served as the capital of Russian Alaska under the name Paul's Harbor. The Baranov Museum, fishing economy, Coast Guard presence, and cold-weather Navy training nearby all point to a place that is historic, remote, maritime, and unmistakably Alaskan.
