About Kongiganak

Kongiganak, colloquially known as Kong, is a census-designated place in the Bethel Census Area, Alaska, situated on the eastern shore of the Kongiganak River. Home to approximately five hundred residents, the community was originally settled in the nineteenth century near Kuskokwim Bay. Today, the village is served by the Ayagina'ar Elitnaurvik school within the Lower Kuskokwim School District. Kongiganak maintains a traditional Yup'ik culture and a subsistence-based lifestyle, accessible primarily by regional air transport and seasonal waterways.
