Kopperston, WV

Kopperston is a quiet, close-knit mountain community tucked into the rugged hills of Wyoming County in southern West Virginia. With around 500 residents, it offers a peaceful, slow-paced lifestyle surrounded by heavily wooded ridges and green hollows. Getting around takes a little getting used to, as local roads follow the natural curves of the mountains, creeks, and old company paths instead of any standard street grid.

The community got its start in the 1940s as a model coal camp built by the Consolidation Coal Company, complete with its own schools, churches, and neighborhood recreation. Today, it remains a tranquil residential spot with deep Appalachian roots. Since Kopperston is mostly residential, locals make the easy drive over to neighboring towns like Oceana or Pineville for groceries, errands, and everyday services.
