Kotlik, AK

Kotlik is a close-knit Yup'ik village tucked along Kotlik Slough in western Alaska's Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, roughly 35 miles northeast of Emmonak. Situated near where the Yukon River meets the Bering Sea, the surrounding landscape is an open mix of winding waterways, wetlands, and tundra. There are no highways leading into town, so getting around changes with the seasons. Residents rely on skiffs and riverboats during the summer thaw, while winter freezes the rivers and tundra into travel routes for snowmobiles. Small bush planes provide the main link to the rest of the state, flying in groceries, mail, and travelers year-round.
