Kress, TX

Located in Swisher County along U.S. 87, Kress is a quiet farming community about twelve miles south of Tulia. The town was founded in the 1890s under the name Wright, but it actually packed up and moved a couple of miles in 1906 to meet the arriving railroad, renaming itself after local pioneer George H. Kress. While grain elevators still anchor the skyline, the community has settled into a steady, unhurried pace surrounded by the wide-open plains of the Texas Panhandle.

Today, everyday life in Kress revolves around agriculture and the local schools. The Kress Independent School District serves local families right in town, and community sports and school gatherings tend to bring everyone together. For bigger grocery runs, medical care, and dining, residents take a quick drive north to Tulia or south to Plainview.
