La Fayette, AL

La Fayette is the Chambers County seat, laid out in 1833 near the county's center and incorporated two years later. The courthouse square gives the city an old-town center, while U.S. 431 runs north-south through the middle toward Roanoke and Opelika. The official city spelling is LaFayette, but the local map here says La Fayette. Either way, this is east-central Alabama in a courthouse-and-highway shape, with county business at the core.
