About La Porte City
La Porte City is a Black Hawk County city in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls metropolitan area, platted in 1855 and named for La Porte, Indiana, the former home of one of its founders. Main Street remains the civic and commercial spine, with City Hall, the library, the La Porte City FFA Historical and Ag Museum, and small shops gathered along the older center. The museum's two sites turn local farm and community history into a visible part of the town's everyday map today.

Union Community School District serves the city from its campus at 200 Adams Street, and the city's parks commission organizes recreation across town. McFarlane Park lies about three miles away, while local parks add a second landscape beyond Main Street. La Porte City's character comes from that pairing: a compact Black Hawk County business center, a school district shared across the surrounding countryside, and an agricultural museum that keeps the town's working history close to its present-day routines.
