La Vernia, TX

La Vernia is a Wilson County city on the south bank of Cibolo Creek, where U.S. 87 and Farm to Market Road 775 meet about 25 miles east of San Antonio. The 2020 census counted 1,077 residents. The older local route was the Gonzales Road, which crossed the Cibolo and connected San Antonio with Gonzales during the Texas Revolution era. That crossing story still gives La Vernia its sense of place: creek, road, farms, and a town center gathered around the route.
