Ladera Heights, CA

Ladera Heights is a scenic, upscale Westside enclave known for wide streets, custom ranch homes, and rolling hills with sweeping views. Bordered by Culver City, Inglewood, Westchester, and Baldwin Hills, the neighborhood sits in an unincorporated pocket of Los Angeles County. Locals generally divide the area into three sections: Upper Ladera north of Slauson Avenue, Lower Ladera to the south, and Old Ladera just east of La Cienega Boulevard. It offers a calm, suburban feel while keeping you minutes away from the coast, Silicon Beach, and LAX.

The neighborhood began taking shape in the late 1940s and expanded through the 1950s and 1960s, creating a handsome collection of custom mid-century ranch and split-level houses. Ladera Heights also holds a celebrated place in Los Angeles cultural history. After restrictive housing covenants were struck down, successful Black professionals, artists, and athletes chose to make Ladera their home, including baseball legend Frank Robinson. Alongside neighboring View Park and Baldwin Hills, it became known as one of the country’s most prominent, affluent Black communities, carrying a rich legacy of neighborhood pride and architectural charm.

Running errands is easy thanks to Ladera Center along La Cienega Boulevard, which serves as the local commercial hub with grocery stores, banks, pharmacies, and casual dining spots. Overlooking the community from the west, the scenic hillside campus of West Los Angeles College brings open green spaces, walking paths, and educational opportunities right to the neighborhood's doorstep. Residents also enjoy quick access to the trendy restaurants and entertainment of downtown Culver City and the Westfield Culver City mall just down the hill.

Ladera Park serves as the community’s favorite gathering spot, featuring tennis courts, lush picnic areas, playgrounds, and community recreation facilities. The park hosts everything from youth sports and fitness classes to neighborhood celebrations and senior programs. An active civic association has kept neighbors connected since the 1950s, helping preserve the quiet residential character that draws people here.
