Lagro, IN

Lagro is a quiet, close-knit town nestled right where the Salamonie River meets the Wabash. Named after Miami Chief Le Gris, the community first took off during the canal boom of the 1830s when Irish laborers arrived to construct the Wabash and Erie Canal. You can still see remnants of that era today, including the historic Kerr Lock and St. Patrick's Catholic Church, a local landmark built with bricks shipped right down the waterway.

Today, daily life in Lagro moves at a relaxed pace centered around Main Street. It is the kind of place where neighbors catch up at the post office, gather at the American Legion, and turn out every summer for the Good Old Days festival. For outdoor lovers, the surrounding countryside and nearby Salamonie River State Forest offer scenic bluffs, hiking trails, and peaceful fishing spots just minutes from your front door.
