About Lake Everett

Lake Everett is an Allen County community and census-designated place in Lake Township, organized around a 42-acre lake about 12 miles from Fort Wayne. The lake is the heart of the place: cottages and wooded shorelines fill the edges, most surrounding land is privately owned, and the water gives the community a seasonal, residential feel. The name honors Charles Everett, whose connection to the lake carried into the community’s name.

Lake Everett is also a small but important piece of Allen County’s natural landscape. It is the county’s only natural lake, and Indiana’s conservation work here has included protection of 110 forested acres and 1,200 feet of shoreline. That protected tract includes a two-acre bog that provides habitat for a state-endangered salamander. The state maintains a beach, dock, and boat ramp, and the lake is known locally for pan fishing and muskie. There is no conventional downtown to find; the community is defined by water, woods, cottages, and the short drive between a rural lake setting and Fort Wayne.
