About Lake Kerr

Lake Kerr is a Marion County CDP spread around the lake of the same name in northeastern Florida, about 30 miles northeast of Ocala and 25 miles southwest of Palatka. The water is the real center of the place. Marion County describes Lake Kerr as a limestone-formed sinkhole lake of about 2,830 acres, with a broad, irregular shoreline, forest around it, and depths that reach more than 20 feet in places.

Moorhead Park gives the community a clear county-run foothold: the two-acre park has a boat ramp, bank fishing, and restrooms on the lake’s edge. The surrounding roads lead through the Ocala National Forest rather than into a conventional town square, so Lake Kerr reads as a shoreline settlement with a large water body doing the organizing. The nearby old name Kerr City belongs to an earlier Marion County settlement and helps with the area’s historical map, but the CDP itself is the ring of homes and roads around Lake Kerr. Think lake first, county road second, Ocala and Palatka as the nearest larger reference points.
