Lake Luzerne, NY

Lake Luzerne is the primary hamlet and CDP inside the town of the same name in southern Warren County. The hamlet sits between Lake Luzerne and the Hudson River, where Rockwell Falls tightens the river into a gorge and the lake’s outlet runs through Wells Creek. The town was first settled in 1767, became Fairfield in 1792, and took the Luzerne name in 1808; “Lake” was added in 1963. Old Mill Park holds the first U.S.-assembled wood pulp grinder, and the local history museum keeps the area’s leather, logging, hotel, and summer-camp chapters close at hand. Lake Luzerne is Adirondack foothill country where water and work share the same map.
