About Lake of the Woods

Lake of the Woods is a Kern County mountain community tucked into Cuddy Canyon along the Ventura County line, inside the Los Padres National Forest. The name comes from an old local hope: springs and a stream from Cuddy Valley might fill a lake, and a dam eventually made one in the 1930s, though dry years could empty it. The community association dates to 1949, and Cuddy Hall followed in 1959. Kern Regional Transit brings a summer connection on Thursdays and Saturdays toward Frazier Park and nearby mountain communities.
