About Lake of the Woods
Lake of the Woods is an unincorporated lakeside community in German Township, Marshall County, built around the 416-acre lake of the same name. The community sits between Bremen and Plymouth, with Bremen about four miles northeast and Plymouth, the county seat, about nine miles southwest. The lake gives the place its shape: homes and roads follow the shore, while the surrounding farm country opens toward the Yellow River and the rest of northern Indiana.
The lake is a working local institution as well as scenery. The Lake of the Woods Property Owners’ Association holds meetings, organizes cleanups, and tracks water conditions such as Eurasian watermilfoil and algae. The county’s parks plan places the lake among its main water features, alongside the Yellow River corridor and the larger Lake Maxinkuckee system. Residents use Bremen for a nearby ZIP code and everyday errands, while Plymouth handles county services. Lake of the Woods is a small Indiana community organized by shoreline, lake management, and the roads running between two county towns.
