Lake Panorama, IA

Lake Panorama is a Guthrie County census-designated place spread across Cass and Victory townships on both sides of a reservoir on the Middle Raccoon River. The 2020 census counted 1,266 residents. The community borders Panora and reads more like a lakeside development than a conventional Iowa town: roads, homes, marinas, golf, and open shoreline all revolve around the water. It is also the largest private lake in Iowa, a detail that shapes nearly every local conversation. Lake Panorama Association represents more than 1,750 property owners, and the Rural Improvement Zone formed in 1998 gives the area an unusual layer of local government alongside the townships and county.

The reservoir supplies the visual center, while Panora handles nearby town errands and the Middle Raccoon sets the wider valley.
