Lake St. Louis is a scenic suburban community in western St. Charles County, conveniently tucked between Interstate 70 and Interstate 64. The community began in the late 1960s when developer R. T. Crow set out to create a weekend lake retreat for families escaping the St. Louis bustle. When financial troubles forced the developers into bankruptcy during the 1970s, passionate residents stepped in to save the amenities and guide their own neighborhood. They officially incorporated the municipality as Harbor Town in 1975 before changing the name to Lake Saint Louis in 1977, establishing the community-driven spirit that still defines the city.
