Lakeport, MI

Lakeport sits on the southern shore of Lake Huron in Burtchville Township, about ten miles north of Port Huron. M-25 runs through the community, with Lakeport State Park wrapped around it on three sides. The shoreline here is rocky and open, and the park brings a campground, playground, buoyed swim area, picnic spaces, and more than a mile of lakefront into the local picture. Lakeport's history started with an 1837 attempt to plat Milwaukie City at the mouth of the creek; B.C. Farrand replatted the village in 1853, and the Lakeport name was recorded in 1858.

The village's best local trick is that the state park is split by the community itself. The campground lies north of Lakeport and the day-use area south of it, with M-25 and a pedestrian overpass linking the two sides. That makes the lake part of everyday scenery, not a distant weekend backdrop. Burtchville Township adds farmland, beach frontage, and township services, while Port Huron supplies the larger-city errands. Lakeport is a narrow band of houses, road, trees, and water, with the old post-office settlement still sitting inside a working shoreline.
