Lakeside is an unincorporated census-designated place in Kern County, just south of Bakersfield in the low, flat landscape of the southern San Joaquin Valley. The CDP sits around 331 feet above sea level and was first counted under its present statistical boundary in the 2020 census. Its name can sound like a water town, but the mapped place is all land; the everyday setting is agricultural valley ground, neighborhood streets, and the Bakersfield regional grid.
