Lakeside City, TX

Lakeside City is a small Archer County town with its front door on Lake Wichita. The town sits along the lake’s southern shore, just south of Wichita Falls, with State Highway 79 touching its southeastern edge and leading toward Wichita Falls and Archer City. Its 2020 population was 1,082, but the geography makes the larger Wichita Falls area part of the daily picture. Homes, lake roads, and open water define the setting, while Holliday Independent School District handles the public schools.

Lake Wichita itself was built as a reservoir; a concrete dam completed in 1921 replaced the original earthen dam. For decades, the lake served Wichita Falls for drinking water and recreation, and Lakeside City grew on the Archer County side of that story. The town is close enough to share the lake’s name and regional pull while keeping its own municipal line. When locals talk about Lakeside City, they are usually talking about both pieces at once: a small city and the big water just outside the door.
