About Laketon
Laketon sits in Pleasant Township's lake country in Wabash County, between Wabash and North Manchester. The place was laid out in 1836, and a post office followed in 1838; it remained in operation until 2010. The Big Four Railroad reached the township in 1872, helping secure Laketon's place as a center for the surrounding farm country. Several lakes, including Long, Lukens, and Round, fill the township around the compact settlement.
Today's Laketon is organized through township, fire, and church institutions. Pleasant Township Fire Department is at 10459 N Ogden Road, and the township lists Laketon and Disco in its service area. Laketon Wesleyan Church has been at 85 E Lake Street since 1903, with Sunday school and children's programming alongside worship. Manchester Community Schools serves the area, while the closed post office marks the shift from an older service town to a place whose daily business is spread among township offices, the fire station, church grounds, and the roads around the lakes.
