Lakeview, AR

Lakeview is a Baxter County city on Bull Shoals Lake, beside the White River’s trout waters and about fifteen minutes from Mountain Home. The lake-and-river setting is part of the local economy: resorts, bait and tackle shops, marinas, restaurants, and water-sports businesses shape the town’s working map. Arkansas Highway 178 is the main road through town, while Mountain Home supplies larger retail, dining, school, and medical connections for the surrounding area.

The town grew with a major piece of public works. Bull Shoals Dam was completed in 1951 to control flooding and generate hydroelectric power; Lakeview and neighboring Bull Shoals developed around the workers and construction activity at the dam. The completed project flooded the upstream valley and turned the White River into the lake-and-river system residents use today. State parks, a Corps of Engineers park, walking trails, campgrounds, and an improved marina keep the shoreline active. Lakeview’s local map is a water town with a dam-era origin and a larger regional center just down the road.
