About Langdon

Langdon is Cavalier County's seat, founded in the 1880s when a new North Dakota town was being fixed to the prairie grid. The county seat was chosen in 1884, the city was founded in 1885, and the post office opened in 1886. Its name remembers Robert Bruce Langdon, a Minnesota politician and railroad official who never visited the town. Langdon won a disputed county-seat contest over Rosa Lake, Olga, and Lemon in 1887, and the courthouse still holds that role. It is a North Dakota county-seat town with a railroad name and a little local election lore.
