Lantana, FL

Named after the hardy flowering shrubs that once covered the area, Lantana got its start in the late 1800s as a small coastal trading post and fishing settlement. Even as surrounding Palm Beach County has grown, Lantana has managed to keep a relaxed, down-to-earth feel. Historic cottages still dot the side streets, and long-standing local diners give the community a distinctly old-Florida personality that is hard to find in more built-up neighboring towns.

The layout is simple and easy to navigate. Ocean Avenue runs right through the center of town, connecting mainland neighborhoods out across the Intracoastal bridge to the ocean. Most residents live in quiet, walkable residential pockets nestled between the water and the local businesses along U.S. 1 and Lantana Road. You get the benefit of quiet residential streets alongside quick access to grocery stores, neighborhood cafes, and nearby transit routes for easy commutes across the region.

Waterfront recreation is a big part of daily life here. On the mainland side, spots like Bicentennial Park and Sportsman's Park offer boat launches, walking paths, and fishing piers right on the Intracoastal Waterway. Crossing over to the barrier island brings you to Lantana Municipal Beach, a welcoming stretch of Atlantic sand with an oceanfront restaurant, playground, volleyball courts, and picnic pavilions. It creates an easy coastal lifestyle where spending an afternoon by the water is part of the regular routine.
