Largo sits right in the middle of Pinellas County, stretching across the peninsula from the coastal waters near the Gulf over to Tampa Bay. That central position makes getting around simple, whether you are heading north to Clearwater, south to St. Petersburg, or commuting across the bay to Tampa. Main routes like East Bay and West Bay drives, Ulmerton Road, and Missouri Avenue link residential neighborhoods with shopping plazas, local eateries, and medical centers. Daily life is spread comfortably across several distinct districts, from the growing downtown corridor on West Bay Drive to the central civic and park spaces nearby.

The city started out as a quiet farming and railroad settlement surrounded by citrus groves. Local stories say the community took its name from a large lake that was later filled in as development expanded. While a severe freeze in 1962 brought an end to the local citrus boom, former grove land quickly transformed into the neighborhoods, schools, and retail plazas that define the city today. Historic communities like Dansville preserve important pieces of the area's working roots, while John S. Taylor Park offers a large freshwater lake, disc golf course, and shaded picnic shelters.

Healthcare and education form the backbone of the local economy, making Largo an appealing location for working professionals. HCA Florida Largo Hospital anchors a large medical network with specialized cardiac and surgical care across multiple local facilities. The Pinellas County School District maintains its central headquarters here, alongside a steady mix of corporate offices, manufacturing, and tech businesses along the Ulmerton Road corridor. Downtown improvements, including the Horizon West Bay development, have added convenient city services, retail shops, event spaces, and parking to West Bay Drive.

For weekends and afternoons outside, Largo offers some of the finest green spaces in the county. Largo Central Park serves as a favorite community gathering spot, hosting seasonal festivals, an expansive public library, and live music and theater at the Central Park Performing Arts Center. Just to the south, Pinewood Cultural Park pairs the 150-acre Florida Botanical Gardens with Heritage Village, an open-air museum filled with restored historic cottages, schoolhouses, and general stores. With the popular Pinellas Trail also cutting right through town, cyclists and runners can easily commute or exercise in the coastal air.
