About Larimore

Larimore is a Grand Forks County city that began with the railroad in 1881. The town was named for N. G. Larimore, who owned a large farm in the area, and its early growth followed the rail line before the tracks continued toward Devils Lake. U.S. 2 and North Dakota 18 meet a few miles north, while Grand Forks Air Force Base remains one of the nearby reference points. Larimore also sits near the Turtle River and Larimore Dam, giving the city a water-and-rail outline. The short version is prairie railroad town, namesake farm, and a community that grew where the line stopped long enough to build a town.
