Lasara, TX

Lasara is a census-designated community in western Willacy County, set along Texas 186 and FM 1015 near the Missouri Pacific rail line. Raymondville is about eight miles east, but Lasara has long served its own rural pocket, with farm roads, irrigation country, and the flat South Texas horizon defining the approach. The community was laid out in 1924 and took its name from Laura Harding and Sarah Gill, the wives of settlers William Harding and Lamar Gill.

Lasara's early center held the pieces a farming community needed: stores, churches, a school, a grain elevator, factories, and a post office that opened in 1926. The school district received approval in 1925, and the town's local history also includes a Union Sunday School and cattle shipping. Those details point to a community built around crops, livestock, school calendars, and rail connections. Lasara remains a small Willacy County crossroads where the road network and the agricultural landscape do most of the talking, with Raymondville close by for the larger county services.
