Lashmeet, WV

Lashmeet is a census-designated place in western Mercer County, set along West Virginia Route 10 northwest of Princeton. The community's name most likely comes from the Lashmeet or Lashmutt family, and a post office still gives the place a recognizable center even though it is unincorporated. Roads climb through the southern West Virginia hills around an elevation of roughly 2,500 feet, with nearby Matoaka, Montcalm, and Princeton supplying the larger regional circuit. Mercer County's older farm economy and later coal-and-rail development form the backdrop.
