Lauderdale, MS

Lauderdale is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Lauderdale County, Mississippi, United States. The 2020 census counted 395 residents. Lauderdale is located along U.S. Highway 45, 16 miles northeast of Meridian. Lauderdale was first inhabited by Native Americans. That mix gives Lauderdale a clear local shape within Mississippi, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. The first recorded Native Americans in the area were the Choctaw, who had a village named Panti on Ponta Creek near the present site of Lauderdale. The community is in the valley of Possum Creek, just south of where it joins Ponta Creek, an east-flowing tributary of the Sucarnoochee River, part of the Tombigbee River watershed. Lauderdale is home to a lumber company.
