Laurel Hill is a census-designated place in southern Fairfax County, bordered by communities such as Crosspointe and Newington Forest. The area is part of the Washington suburban fringe, but it has more open-space and planned-community character than denser inner suburbs. Laurel Hill is shaped by schools, county parks, newer residential development, and road access toward Lorton, Fairfax, and Fort Belvoir. It is best understood as a residential Fairfax County community rather than a separate town center.
