Le Roy, MN

Le Roy is a Mower County city of 957 residents in the 2020 census, surrounded by Le Roy Township and sitting about half a mile north of the Iowa line. The railroad reached the site in 1867, when the town was platted and named for Le Roy, New York, the first settler's home. Minnesota Highway 56 runs through the center, with Austin 29 miles northwest and U.S. 63 just east near the Iowa border.

Water and trails give Le Roy a broad outdoor edge. The Upper Iowa River borders the city to the north, Lake Louise State Park sits just northwest, and the Shooting Star State Trail begins at the city's southeastern side before running through the park toward Rose Creek and Austin. The old rail corridor now carries bicycles and walkers, while the library, streets, and farm roads keep Le Roy tied to the surrounding township. Le Roy is a borderland city where a railroad town plan meets a river, a state park, and a trail leading across southern Minnesota.
