Leavittsburg, OH

Leavittsburg is a Trumbull County census-designated place directly west of Warren, with 1,571 residents in the 2020 census. John Leavitt, from Suffield, Connecticut, founded the settlement in 1803, and the place took the Leavitt family name. It became a canal town in 1839 when the Pennsylvania and Ohio Canal ran through the center. Today the community sits within the Youngstown-Warren metropolitan area, close to the industrial and commercial routes of northeastern Ohio.

School geography is a big part of how Leavittsburg works. LaBrae Local School District serves Leavittsburg and Braceville; the name combines both communities and dates to their 1970 consolidation. Bascom Elementary houses preschool through grade two, and the LaBrae complex handles grades three through twelve. Small manufacturing companies, steel-related work, businesses, and family farms fill out the local map. The canal corridor still gives the community a strong historic line. Leavittsburg carries a canal-era name into a school district and township network that reaches well beyond the CDP boundary.
