Leawood, MO

Leawood is a small village in Newton County within the Joplin metropolitan area. It is one of the county’s scattered incorporated communities, set among the roads, homes, subdivisions, and open land that fill the space around Joplin, Neosho, and the Missouri–Kansas border. The village’s name appears in local plats and addresses, while its larger story is tied to the county’s web of small settlements instead of a single downtown district.

Residents are part of the Joplin School District, with Stapleton Elementary and South Middle School serving the local area and Joplin High School receiving older students. Joplin supplies much of the region’s employment, shopping, health care, and entertainment, while Leawood handles the more immediate business of streets, properties, utilities, and neighborhood routines. A 2025 sewer agreement with Joplin points to the practical way the village works with its larger neighbor. Leawood’s appeal is in that in-between position: village-scale homes and local decisions, with a metropolitan service area close by today.
