Lee, IL

Straddling the border of Lee and DeKalb counties in northern Illinois, Lee is a tiny, peaceful village with a proud Scandinavian heritage. Originally founded as a railroad stop in the 1870s, the town was largely settled by Norwegian immigrants from the Hardanger region. You can still see that history on every corner. During the village's 1974 centennial, residents voted to give every street an authentic Norwegian name, from the main road along the county line, Viking Vie, to quiet residential lanes like Bergen and Telemark.
