Leesburg, IN

Leesburg is a town in Plain Township, Kosciusko County, Indiana, with 555 residents in the 2020 census. Levi Lee laid it out in 1833, making it the oldest town in the county. Leesburg served as county seat until 1854, when the Pennsylvania Railroad reached Warsaw and shifted the courthouse role there. The town’s streets still sit within the lakes-and-farm landscape of northern Indiana.

The Leesburg Historic District, listed on the National Register in 1993, keeps the early town center visible through older homes and civic buildings. A 1936 Public Works Administration town hall and the 1890 Masonic and Odd Fellows building add later layers to the same small grid. The courthouse-era grid remains easy to follow on foot. Local roads connect Leesburg to Warsaw, Plain Township, and the county’s chain of lakes, while the former courthouse role remains part of the town’s story.
