Lemmon, SD

Located right along the North Dakota border in northwestern South Dakota, Lemmon is a quiet ranching town of about 1,200 people with deep western roots. The community was founded in the early 1900s as a railroad stop and named after legendary cattleman Ed Lemmon. Today, it still holds onto that classic frontier character, surrounded by rolling grasslands and big prairie skies that give residents plenty of elbow room.

Daily life centers around a walkable Main Street, local K-12 schools, and a few unique landmarks like the world-famous Petrified Wood Park and the Grand River Museum. For outdoor recreation, nearby Shadehill Reservoir and the open prairie offer easy access to boating, camping, fishing, and hunting. It is a slow-paced, friendly community where neighbors know each other and wide-open spaces are always right in your backyard.
