Lemoore, CA

Naval aviation and Central Valley agriculture meet in Lemoore. Naval Air Station Lemoore is the Navy’s largest Master Jet Base, home to more than half of its F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and its only installation housing the F-35C. The city’s deeper history begins with Tachi Yokuts use of the Kings River and Tulare Lake landscape. Dr. Lovern Lee Moore helped organize farm families into a trading community in the 1870s; the post office adopted the name Lemoore in 1875. A railroad arrived in 1877, shifted business toward present-day E and D streets, and made the town a shipping point for agricultural products. Lemoore incorporated in 1900. Its 2020 population was 27,038, and the July 2025 estimate was 27,291. For 2020–2024, 51.6 percent of occupied homes were owner-occupied; the median owner-occupied value was $328,300, monthly costs for owners with a mortgage were $1,867, and median gross rent was $1,555.

Present-day public facilities connect the downtown, residential neighborhoods, college, and air station. The Parks and Recreation Department runs youth programs, adult sports, classes, and community events. Heritage Park has basketball and tennis courts, disc golf, volleyball, a walking path, and a playground, while the Kings Lions Complex has two lighted softball fields and a dog park. Downtown’s D Street Plaza supplies a gazebo, fountain, benches, and murals, and the Civic Auditorium and Recreation Center provide bookable indoor gathering space. Lemoore College offers associate and transfer degrees and certificates in fields including agriculture, business, health careers, information technology, and skilled trades; its student union also provides food services, Wi-Fi, clubs, events, and basic-needs resources for enrolled students. Kings Area Regional Transit operates Route 20 within Lemoore and Route 21 to the naval air station, with a weekday reservation-based Flex service for designated stops.
