Lenox, IA

Lenox is a Taylor County city with a railroad-first origin. The settlement began as Summit after the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy reached the area in 1872, then took the name Lenox and incorporated in 1875. A disastrous fire in 1884 forced the young town to rebuild, and the main street that followed became the working center for the surrounding farm country. You can still read the older layout as a place built around trains, grain, stores, and the roads that bring rural Taylor and Adams County in.

The city’s signature event is the Lenox Rodeo, organized by the Stock and Saddle Club and wrapped into a full Rodeo Week. The professional rodeo grounds, parade, and other summer events give the calendar a distinctly western-Iowa flavor. Lenox Community School District keeps the school connection local, while the library, pool, walking trails, Main Street shops, and community-owned wind turbine add the everyday pieces. Lenox is a small farm town with a strong annual gathering: railroad roots underfoot, rodeo dust in the summer, and a wind turbine turning above the fields.
