About Leona

Tucked along the Wolf River in northwestern Doniphan County, Leona is a quiet rural community with deep local roots. Founded in the 1870s and named after the first baby born in the settlement, Leona Shock, the town began as a railroad stop for nearby farms. Today, Leona offers a peaceful country setting where local students attend the Doniphan West school district. It is a slow-paced, close-knit corner of northeast Kansas surrounded by scenic rolling farmland.
