About Lewistown

Lewistown is a Frederick County census-designated place and unincorporated community east of U.S. 15, founded in 1841 in the rural corridor between Frederick and the Catoctin foothills. Lewistown Elementary has served as a local school presence since the 19th century, and the community's streets still gather around the school, churches, fire station, and small residential lots. Angleberger Road, Hessong Bridge Road, Powell Road, and U.S. 15 form the main boundaries of the local map.

The Lewistown Volunteer Fire Company began in 1970 after residents bought the county's first diesel engine. Today the station sits beside the elementary school and remains one of the places where local service becomes visible. Frederick County plans describe a community with several churches, scattered businesses, and a shared wastewater system serving the school and fire company. Frederick, Urbana, and nearby Ijamsville handle larger shopping and work trips, while Lewistown keeps its own school-and-firehouse center. It is a Maryland place where a 19th-century school, volunteer fire tradition, and rural road network still meet.
