Lewisville, NC

Lewisville's roots date back to the mid-1700s, when travelers along the historic Great Wagon Road stopped near the Shallow Ford crossing of the Yadkin River. A Moravian settlement soon followed, eventually taking the name Lewisville after local landowner Lewis Laugenour. You can still spot pieces of that past around town today, including Laugenour's 1850s home and the old 1910 Roller Mill near downtown. Even with all that history, Lewisville only officially incorporated as a town in 1991, primarily so residents could manage local development and protect their quiet, residential feel.

Getting around is simple thanks to U.S. 421, which sits along the southern edge of town and puts downtown Winston-Salem roughly fifteen minutes away. Shallowford Road serves as the main corridor through the heart of the community. To keep that central area calm and pedestrian-friendly, the town is currently building a new bypass route parallel to Shallowford Road. You will run into some local construction and minor detours near the town center while crews finish up the project, but the new route will ultimately divert heavy commuter traffic away from local shops and neighborhoods.

Much of the town's social scene centers on Shallowford Square, which serves as an open gathering spot for free summer concerts, outdoor movies, and community festivals. For more active recreation, Jack Warren Park offers paved walking loops, wooded trails, an 18-hole disc golf course, and large playgrounds. Note that town parks do have strict pet policies, so you will want to check the local rules before bringing dogs to events. If you are considering a move here, plan a visit on a weekend or during an evening festival to get a true feel for the friendly, small-town atmosphere.
